Jaisalmer, Jul 22 (PTI): Invigilators at a private college here were allegedly found dictating answers to students during a university examination, officials said on Wednesday.
The matter came to light when a flying squad of Jai Narain Vyas University conducted a surprise inspection at Shri Karni College in Kajoi village during the BA second-year Hindi literature examination held on Wednesday between 7 am and 10 am, they said.
“During the inspection, the invigilators were seen dictating answers to students in the examination hall,” an official associated with the probe said.
Following the inspection, the squad sealed 93 answer sheets and registered a case of mass copying.
The officials said preliminary scrutiny revealed that several answer sheets contained nearly identical responses, raising suspicion of organised cheating.
The university has also examined CCTV footage of the examination centre.
“The footage indicates that answers were being dictated to candidates, and a detailed inquiry has been initiated,” an official said.
The flying squad team comprised Prof Aman Singh, Dr Suresh Choudhary, Dr Lalit Jhala and Dr Gaurav Jain.
SBK College Jaisalmer principal Shyamsundar Meena said acts of providing unfair advantage in the education and examination system were wrong as candidates put in hard work and effort to prepare for exams, and such practices undermine the interests of deserving students.
The squad also inspected other examination centres in Jaisalmer, including Undu, Fatehgarh and Ramgarh, as well as the Shiv area of Barmer district, where another cheating case was reported. University authorities said strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
“Maintaining fairness and transparency in examinations is our top priority, and any irregularity will not be tolerated,” Vice-Chancellor Prof Pawan Kumar Sharma said.
He added that the university was following a zero-tolerance policy against malpractice and appropriate action would be taken based on the inquiry report.
The officials said vigilance had been increased at other examination centres following the incident, and further inspections are being carried out to ensure fair conduct of exams.
