IOCL-IDAN initiative strengthens women’s livelihoods in Nagaland

DIMAPUR: A significant step towards rural livelihood enhancement and women’s empowerment was marked with the inauguration-cum-asset handover ceremony for handloom and textile equipment to women beneficiaries from Tsithrongse, Murise and Urra villages. The programme was held at Tsithrongse Village Council Hall on May 5.
The initiative, supported by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and implemented by the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), seeks to strengthen the handloom and textile ecosystem while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women.
Advisor for Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, acknowledged IOCL and IDAN for their continued support through impactful CSR interventions in Nagaland. She urged beneficiaries to make optimal use of the equipment to enhance skills, generate sustainable livelihoods, and seek guidance from NSRLM to strengthen their entrepreneurial journey.
In his welcome address, Vineet Kumar, Additional Secretary (Finance) & IDAN, underscored the importance of convergence between government institutions, corporate partners and local communities in driving inclusive development. He noted that the initiative represents a focused effort to strengthen grassroots enterprises and enhance the value of traditional handloom practices.
Nitin Bhatnagar, executive director & State Head, IOCL (AOD), Guwahati, said IOCL recognises its responsibility to give back to the community through meaningful initiatives. Praising the craftsmanship of Naga women, he encouraged beneficiaries to effectively utilise the equipment to strengthen livelihoods and expressed optimism for continued collaboration in future. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Akali Yeptho conveyed gratitude to IDAN and IOCL, remarking that the support marked the beginning of their journey towards economic empowerment. She expressed eagerness to further upskill through trainings and workshops.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by I. Changsang, under secretary, IDAN, and was chaired by Dr. Nchumbeni Ovung, Consultant, IDAN. The event featured the formal handing over of assets, unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and launch of the IDAN CSR Chronicle magazine. The event was attended by officials of IDAN, IOCL representatives, village councils and community members.
