IPPI first phase carried out across Nagaland

Along with the rest of the country, the first round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) was carried out across the various districts in Nagaland.  
In Kohima, principal director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Nandira Changkija administered the first Polio drops. The inaugural function at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima was graced by deputy commissioner, Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor and state officials from the Health & Family Welfare department.
At the inaugural speech, state programme officer (UIP), Dr. Visase-u Kire said IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate polio in the country. 
In the state capital, 240 Polio booths were set up to give coverage to a target of 37,808 children of five years and below. Mobile Polio teams on IPPI would also be visiting transit points especially bus stations and taxi stands for the next two days.
DIMAPUR: In Dimapur, the first round of IPPI Polio 2016 was launched by deputy commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome IAS, by administering the first two drops of polio at district hospital Dimapur. The function was chaired by district programme officer, RCH-UIP, Dr. Lanuakum. The targeted population is 53167 (0-5 years) children. 512 booths have been setup and 2048 staff and volunteers have been assigned to carry out the activity. House to house coverage would also be carried out in the following week. The inaugural programme was also attended by CMO, Dr. M. A. Wati, medical superintendent Dr. Tungoe, nursing superintendent, Dr. Antoly, deputy CMO, Dr. Talituba, DTO Dr. Moa DPO (NVBDCP) Dr Lydia & DPRO Dimapur along with staff under CMO and MS.
ZUNHEBOTO: Altogether 228 booths were set up and 680 health workers deployed for the campaign. The function was held at CMO office premises and  SDO (C) Zunheboto, Shanavas (IAS) inaugurated and administered the first Polio drop. The function was chaired by DPM, Vitoli. DPO (RCH &UIP), Dr. Alemwabang Aier gave the key note address.
LONGLENG: Deputy commissioner Longleng, Y.Denngan Avennoho Phom administered the first polio drops. He appreciated the medical department for their active participation by reaching all the villagers under Lonleng district. Altogether 70 booths were set up across the district to cover the target of 7083 children in the age group between 0-5 yrs and manned by 280 vaccinators.
Health workers and volunteers would be conducting house to house campaign on January 18 and 19 for the children, who failed to turn up. CMO, Dr. Ritu Thurr, deputy CMO, Dr.Kongyan, doctors and nurses from district hospitals, DPMU staff NHM attended the program.
WOKHA: Wokha district also conducted the 1st round of IPPI, with chief medical officer (CMO), Dr. Enrithung administering the first Polio drops in the district. Altogether 197 polio booths, 5 transit teams, 1 mobile team, were set up along while 32 supervisors, 640 vaccinators were detailed to ensure all children 0-5 years receive Polio drops in the district. House to house visit would be carried out on January 18 and 19, both at the urban and rural areas.
PHEK: In Phek, the first polio drops was administered by deputy commissioner Phek, Murohu Chotso  at district hospital Phek.  Different Polio booths totalling 45 booths were set up. In order to give complete immunization to the entire children, house to house visitation will be carried out in the next two days.
MON: Mon district also joined the first phase Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) drive by administering polio drops to children under five years of age.
The inaugural function was graced deputy commissioner Mon, Honjee Konyak at the district hospital. Polio drops were administered through 300 booths identified at all the 6 blocks i.e Aboi, Wakching, Phomching, Tizit, Tobu and Mon. Besides, transit booths have been set up near important bus stations, market areas and all the wards. 1200 volunteers mobilized to administer Polio drops where youths from Konyak Baptist Church Mon were also a part of the team. 60 supervisors have been assigned for the programme.
TUENSANG: First round IPPI was launched in Tuensang district by deputy  commissioner  Tuensang , Alemjongshi (NCS), in the presence of the chief medical officer (CMO),  Dr.T.Pangjung Sangtam and DPO (UIP & RCH) Tuensang, Dr. Temsu Longchar at the Tower Clock junction Tuensang town. The department has opened 230 booths, with 46 Supervisors and 1,280 vaccinators in all the blocks, to cover over 27,552 estimated children age from 0-5 years.  
KIPHIRE: Kiphire launched the first phase of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) on January 17, where the first polio drop was administered by ADC Kiphire, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang in Kiphire village.  The first phase will be carried out till January 19. At the launching programme, DPO (RCH&UIP), Dr. Rebecca Y Sema presented a health talk and told those present of on the importance of these two drops to the lives of children. Along with the IPPI launch, “Baby Show” was organized at Kiphire village and Longthonger village. The participants were judged based on their weight, cleanliness and immunization. Altogether, 19 babies (under one year) participated out of which Atsavi Sangtam (Kiphire village) and Ketali (Longthonger village) were declared winners.
PEREN: First round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) was held in Peren at district hospital, Peren with ADC Tianu as the chief guest. Deputy CMO, Dr. Tiala chaired the program and the key note address was delivered by DPO RCH/UIP, Dr. Khrielasanuo. Officials from directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, deputy director NHM, Dr. Khriesatuo attended the programme as observer for Peren district.
