Iran names Khamenei’s son to succeed him

DUBAI, MAR 9 (AP):

Iran has appointed hard-line cleric Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, who had ruled Iran for 37 years.
The 56-year-old cleric was selected by the Assembly of Experts as the country faces escalating conflict with the United States and Israel. Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed during the opening phase of the war.
Mojtaba, known for close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, takes power as Iran launches missile and drone strikes against Israel and Gulf Arab states while facing heavy US and Israeli bombardment.
