Launching a scathing attack on Congress party, Union minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani Thursday said Congress is a party of “slogans” and remained inactive in the country and Assam during their regime.
“Congress is a party of slogans. But BJP-led NDA is a party of work. You see what the sitting congress MLA has voiced for you on the floor of the assembly in the past 15 years of rule? You were silent for the past 15 years. But it is the time to raise your voice,” Irani said while addressing a mammoth election rally at CCI Playground in Bokajan, Karbi Anglong.
Irani, who has been campaigning in Assam for the last few days, also criticised the Congress for supporting the people who wanted to destroy the country, ignoring the sacrifices made by the security forces for safety and security of the nation. She however made it clear that the BJP would “not allow any force to destroy the unity of the nation”.
Urging the voters to vote for BJP in the upcoming Assam elections, Irani assured the country would remain secure and united with BJP in power.
Highlighting various achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government, Irani pointed out that NE states had to struggle for receiving DoNER funds, but now DoNER Ministry was at your doorstep. She also assured that the Act East Policy of the Centre would in bringing fast development to North Eastern region.
Irani further said that a separate department– Tribal Philosophy of North East at Shillong’s North East Hill University (NEHU) would be introduced soon so that the entire world would realize the richness of the region’s philosophy, culture and social history. She also said for the first time free books of NCERT from classes I to XII have been made available online and on mobile apps.
“Has the Congress government spread this information among the people so that they can avail the facilities?” she asked.
Moreover, Irani said the Centre would be bringing out a special Hindi dictionary in 50 dialects of the country so that people could get connected, saying “language is the bridge to join people”.
Education and health leads to employment and empowerment, for this the Modi government has taken several initiatives including “Start-Up India” to help youth start a business or get a job, she added.
Stating that the Diphu Medical College was non-functional in Karbi Anglong for the last 15 years, Irani promised that it would be completed and functional if BJP was voted to power.
She also promised ambulance service in each village and super speciality hospitals in every constituency of the state.
Asking the voters to give a fitting reply to Congress for its inaction, Irani urged the people to come out of their houses on the day of polling and press the Lotus button for a change.
Speaking on women’s right, she lamented that a teenage girl was molested in full public view by a mob in July 2012 in Guwahati. “It is indeed shameful that women no longer feel secure to step out in the streets and crime against them is increasing the state.”
If voted to power, BJP will set up women police stations in every district, Irani assured the gathering.
