On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in St. Petersburg, Russia, to engage in discussions with President Vladimir Putin. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Russian officials as well as Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali.
According to Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the planned talks between Araghchi and President Putin will address critical developments following the joint military strikes executed by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. Jalali emphasized that this visit represents ongoing “close consultations” between the two nations, reflecting their shared perspectives on regional and international issues.
Araghchi’s trip to Russia came on the heels of his visit to Oman, where he discussed Iran’s stance on the escalating tensions in West Asia with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. He expressed his gratitude for Oman’s support in fostering dialogue aimed at enhancing regional stability. This cooperation is particularly vital given the recent military conflict that resulted in significant regional upheaval, including the tragic loss of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and subsequent military reactions from Iran.
