Isak’s 8th death anniv observed

To mark the eighth death anniversary of late Isak Chishi Swu, a memorial talk was organised at Multipurpose Hall in Zunheboto on Friday under the initiative of Green Club, Zunheboto (GCZ).

In his introductory remark, GCZ president Tavinto K Sumi emphasised that Isak’s death anniversary should be celebrated by all Nagas, and not by Sumis alone. He said all the Nagas, not just the Sumis, should not forget to repay him for all the sacrifices he had made and for his dedication to the nation by observing his death anniversary.

He appealed Sumi elders to take up the initiative and ensure that it was observed by the Nagas as a whole in the coming years, adding that it was about time the Sumis woke up from their slumber and think about making his graveyard through a trust since eight years had passed without much progress in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, Ino Jacob Chishi Swu and Ino Qhevihe Chishi Swu, members of the Collective Leadership of NSCN/GPRN, recollected the early days of Isak. They claimed that even as a child, Isak was a good craftsman, good sportsman and peace loving person.

They said Isak passed class 6 from Satakha and studied at Government High School, Kohima till class 10. He then went to Shillong for further studies and joined Naga Youth Club during his college days, representing the Nagas at an Assam sports tournament and even breaking a record in high jump.

Dwelling on what made Isak serve the nation, his appointment as foreign secretary and how he was able to establish contacts with the outside world, Qhevihe stressed that the harvest of the late leader’s hard labour could be reaped by the Nagas only if they connected with God and worked hard.

Jacob also urged the gathering to continue to pray for the Sumi people to become one, while Qhevihe appealed the youth to voice out for Sumis and stand for them, insisting that Isak’s 57 years of his service to the nation should never go in vain.

In his thanksgiving note, Ikato Chishi Swu, the eldest son of Isak, talked about the three visions of his father– Nagaland for Christ, Nagaland would spread the word of God, and Nagaland would be the peace centre. He said his father always said the basic principle of life was to do the will of God.
Attended by around 500 people, the memorial talk was moderated by L Holuto Ayemi and started with a moment of silence in remembrance of Isak Chishi Swu.

Rev Inakhu Sumi, pastor of ZTSBC, prayed for Isak Chishi Swu’s family with special presentations from Hope Messengers and GHQ Naga Army. Welcome note was delivered by Shikaho N Achumi, CAO, Sumi Region, NSCN/GPRN and invocation was done by associate pastor (S) SBCZ Kabo Achumi, while the benediction was pronounced by Hokaito V Achumi, Sumi Region pastor of NSCN/GPRN.

The organisers extended its gratitude to Photography Club Zunheboto as photo and videography partner for the event, Infinity Events for the stage decorations, and to everyone who responded to the invitation and attended the memorial talk. This was stated in a GCZ press release.
