With the ongoing political crisis unresolved, Nagaland BJP unit Sunday said that “the issue in question is for change of leadership and not about losing confidence in the government”
In a press release, BJP unit spokespersons while expressing pain to see the ongoing internal crisis of NPF unresolved, said that “as an alliance of DAN, BJP Nagaland had taken a collective decision to support the NPF group that commanded the majority”.
NPF being the major partner in DAN, BJP said “the leader who commands majority will naturally be the DAN legislature leader and the Chief Minister, which means, leadership issue needed to be resolved first before demanding for floor test”.
Reacting to NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie’s statement, BJP said that he (Shürhozelie) had plainly implied that the issue was no longer internal matter of NPF but an issue of DAN.
In this regard, BJP said since DAN legislature party was the “only competent body to elect its leader, the only option to end the impasse was for the Chief Minister to immediately call an exclusive DAN legislature party/legislators’ meeting”, where all would have the opportunity to decide on the leader of the house.
Failing to do so, BJP said it may “invite the inevitable because more than one week had lapsed since the problem started”.
Blaming NPF for the present political crisis in the State, BJP cautioned that if it continues, the Governor would be compelled to declare President’s Rule (PR) in Nagaland on ground of break-down of constitutional machinery. For this, NPF would be solely responsible and answerable to the people of Nagaland, BJP said, adding, “there will be absolutely no room whatsoever, to put the blame on the NDA government in the Centre or the BJP in Nagaland.”
Further, BJP also made its stand clear that it would “not be part of DAN that takes the help of Congress to form the government”. Citing the example of Jammu & Kashmir where PR was imposed, BJP said “because it is simply against the basic principle of two opposing parties; BJP and Congress, to have any common landing ground”.
