Chang Union Chümoukedima (CUC) celebrated its Silver Jubilee on Wednesday at K4 venue, Chümoukedima Town, under the theme “Progress with Diligence.”
Speaking as the special guest, PHED and Cooperation Minister Jacob Zhimomi reflected on the migration of Nagas from their native villages to the western sector of Nagaland, particularly Dimapur, which has since been bifurcated into Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts. He noted that tribes such as the Sema and Angami were among the earliest settlers in the region, whose decision a century ago paved the way for others and proved to be a blessing for all Nagas.
Emphasizing unity, Zhimomi reminded that every Naga in these districts is an equal stakeholder and must learn to coexist harmoniously. On the development concerns in the ENPO region, he clarified that delays were economic in nature rather than political.
He urged Nagas to look beyond tribal divisions and nurture collective identity, adding that while Nagas identify themselves simply as “Naga” outside the state, this same spirit must also be practiced within Nagaland.
The Jubilee Souvenir was released by the minister, while pastor of Chang Baptist Church, Naga United, Yanger, offered the jubilee blessing.
The programme also featured short speeches by founding president, O. Mongko GB; president of Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT), Nungsang Jamir; chairman of Chümoukedima Village Council (CVC), Razouvotuo Chatsu; president of Eastern Naga People Union Chümoukedima (ENPUC), R. Chemriba Sangtam; president of Chang Union Dimapur, Bendang; and chairman of Hakuchang Colony, Shokhuvi, Hongsa.
Earlier, CUC president Changsangjum delivered the welcome address, while vice president Koma K. Chang proposed the vote of thanks.
