The 2nd edition of Nagaland Potato Festival will be held on May 9, 2025, at Jakhama local ground, Kohima. The festival aimed to promote Nagaland’s organic produce and support local farmers.
Addressing media persons, at Hotel Ura, near Red Cross Building, P.R. Hill, Kohima, event director Dr. Teputo Richa outlined the festival’s key objectives, which was to enhance farmers’ income by promoting agriculture-based enterprises, facilitate value-added product development through capacity building and technical support, establishing sustainable market linkages to improve farmers’ access to domestic and international markets, providing financial assistance and credit access for farmers looking to start or expand their ventures and promoting sustainable agricultural practices and environmental conservation.
Dr. Richa highlighted the success of last year’s festival, which saw over 3,000 visitors and participation from 12 districts and 15,000 kg of potatoes were sold generating more than Rs. 13 lakh in revenue.
This year’s festival will feature: sales and exhibitions of local potatoes and other organic products, workshops on potato cultivation and sustainable farming, display of modern farming equipment and biofertilizers, information booths on agricultural schemes in collaboration with NGOs and government departments, awards for the Biggest Potato and Best Stall along with traditional games, live music performances in partnership with TAFMA.
