DIMAPUR: Jakhama village in Kohima district has been adopted as the Myki Village for the financial year 2026-27 under the Myki Village Adoption Initiative of the Department of Women Resource Development.
According to a DIPR report, a formal programme marking the adoption was held at the Panchayat Hall, Jakhama village, on October 15, with Kevipodi Sophie, MLA attending as the special guest.
The initiative, implemented under the department’s Myki Activities, seeks to promote women’s economic empowerment by enhancing existing village-level activities and improving market linkages.
Following the state government’s “one district–one product” policy, the initiative advocates a “one village–one product” approach, under which an existing activity undertaken by village women is identified and scaled up to increase production and improve market access.
For Jakhama village, hybrid onion cultivation has been identified for upscaling, as the crop has already been performing well in the area.
Ten women farmers from each of the village’s eight khels have been selected to participate in the initiative, taking the total number of beneficiaries to 80.
The programme was followed by a technical session to support the implementation of the initiative.
Members of the Jakhama Village Council, Village Development Board (VDB), Jakhama Women’s Organisation and officials from the Department of Women Resource Development attended the programme.
The initiative is expected to strengthen women’s participation in agricultural activities, enhance local production and create better market opportunities for women farmers in Jakhama village.
