The Jan Aushadhi Kendra (Pharmacy) was inaugurated on March 31 at the District TB and Chest Diseases (DTCD) Hospital, Khuzama. The inauguration was carried out by medical superintendent, Dr. Asunu Thong, in the presence of representatives from Khuzama and Songsong villages, including village council members and community leaders.
This newly established facility marks the second Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Kohima district, following the one at NHAK.
In her address, Dr. Thong highlighted the importance of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) initiative in providing affordable and quality medicines to the public. She expressed optimism that the pharmacy would greatly benefit patients visiting the hospital as well as residents of surrounding villages, particularly those in need. She also called for continued community support towards the growth and development of the hospital.
Representatives from Khuzama and Songsong villages expressed their appreciation to the Medical Superintendent and the DTCD staff for this significant achievement, acknowledging its positive impact on healthcare accessibility in the region. The programme was chaired by senior medical officer, Dr. Kezholenu Sakhrie.
