Japanese language centre launched on World Youth Skills Day

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM), in collaboration with IDAN, on Wednesday launched the NSEDM–IDAN Japanese Language Centre during the observance of World Youth Skills Day 2026 at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, reaffirming its commitment to equipping Naga youth with market driven skills and enhancing global employability.
According to a DIPR report, advisor for Higher Education and Technical Education, Temjenmenba, urged the youth to embrace skill development and entrepreneurship to remain competitive in a rapidly changing global economy. He said the State Government, under the leadership of chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, has prioritised skill development through various initiatives, with NSEDM playing a key role in equipping youth with industry relevant skills.
Stating that government employment alone cannot absorb the growing number of educated youth, Temjenmenba encouraged students and job seekers to explore opportunities in entrepreneurship and the private sector.
He emphasised the importance of acquiring practical skills and adapting to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning to remain globally competitive. He added that the newly launched Japanese Language Centre would enhance employability by opening overseas opportunities, and called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to create more livelihoods through skill development.
Sharing the vision of NSEDM, additional secretary and project manager, Vineet Kumar, said skilling and entrepreneurship would play a crucial role in shaping Nagaland’s future.
He noted that World Youth Skills Day, observed annually on July 15, provides an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of skills development, employability and entrepreneurship while celebrating youth achievements.
Kumar highlighted that with limited government employment opportunities, skill development has become essential for enabling youth to secure sustainable livelihoods.
He informed that since its establishment in October 2025, NSEDM has trained over 3,500 youth, with around 800 trainees currently undergoing programmes. More than 1,000 beneficiaries have either secured employment or become self employed through the Mission’s interventions.
Referring to the Japanese Language Centre, Kumar said the initiative would equip youth with language proficiency, enabling them to access employment opportunities in Japan and other international markets.
He also highlighted the growing partnership between Nagaland and Japan, describing skill development as a key area of cooperation.
He congratulated the 15 youth achievers felicitated during the programme, saying they would serve as role models for others to pursue skill development and entrepreneurship. Reaffirming NSEDM’s commitment, he assured that the Mission would continue expanding its programmes with the support of training partners and stakeholders.
Delivering the closing remarks, Under Secretary and Project Lead, NSEDM–IDAN, Meripeni, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, partners and participants for their support.
She acknowledged the continued vision of chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio in promoting skill development and youth empowerment, and further appreciated the guidance of IDAN chairman Abu Metha and chief secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, stating that their leadership has strengthened NSEDM’s efforts in creating sustainable livelihoods.
