Japfü Christian College, Kigwema, Kohima, celebrated its 30th Freshers’ Day on September 2, welcoming the new batch of students for the 2026 academic session.
In her welcome address, college principal Prof. Visakhonü Hibo warmly welcomed the freshers and encouraged them to make the most of their college years while striving for excellence in all their endeavours.
Guest of Honour, Commandant, 4 NAP Battalion, Thizama, Vizhoto Hibo described the college as a platform that nurtures and prepares students to become future leaders.
Encouraging the freshers to step beyond their comfort zones, he urged them to make new friends, develop their interests and talents, acquire new skills and explore opportunities beyond the classroom.
He further advised the students to remain diligent in their studies and stay away from social vices. Emphasising the importance of taking responsibility at an early stage, he said, “When you become responsible now, you will be able to lead tomorrow.”
Hibo also observed that the struggles faced in the present are part of the growth process, stressing that the fruits reaped tomorrow would depend on the kind of “plant” cultivated today.
Representing the alumni, Section Officer, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Hosea Khiam reflected on his journey as a student of the college 29 years ago. Describing the occasion as the beginning of a new chapter for the freshers, he encouraged them to embrace challenges, remain resilient and continue to dream big.
BOM chairman Tuolie Seleyi also welcomed the new students and urged them to uphold the values of excellence, integrity and ambition. He encouraged them to pursue their aspirations with dedication and strive to become successful individuals whose achievements could inspire others.
As part of the programme, the college felicitated Ajungla, a Nagaland University PG Sociology gold medallist from the institution, along with seven other graduates who cleared their examinations with First Division. The felicitation recognised their academic achievements and served as an inspiration for the new batch.
The programme concluded with a prayer of blessing by Pastor Zhavi Kire of Kigwema Baptist Church, followed by the singing of the college anthem.
