JCF opposes formation of unauthorized business body

DIMAPUR: Joint Colony Forum (JCF), Ward No. 20, Dimapur, comprising six colony councils-United Colony, Imkonglenden Colony, Ura Villa Colony, Circuit House Colony, S.M. Colony and Vilhume Colony-has submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, opposing the reported attempt to form a new business body within United Colony without the approval of the concerned councils.
According to the representation, certain individuals have attempted to establish a forum under the name “Business Owners Forum, Nagarjan” by circulating notices without the knowledge or consent of the United Colony Council, the six colony councils under Ward 20, or any competent authority.
The United Colony Council held a meeting with the group on August 26, where it was informed that no new business organization, forum or association would be permitted without due approval and collective consent.
A subsequent meeting with shop owners, business proprietors and landlords on August 30 also unanimously rejected the proposal.
Despite this, the group reportedly continued its activities and issued a press release on September 10 describing the council’s actions as “wrong.”
The Forum stated that such attempts could create misunderstanding, distrust, tension and division among residents, traders and landlords.
A combined meeting of the six colony councils on September 11 reaffirmed that no new business body would be recognized without prior approval from competent authorities and collective consent of all six councils.
An emergency meeting chaired by Ward 20 Councilor Lanuchuba Imchen on September 13 further resolved that no unauthorized organization would be allowed to function within the ward.
The representation expressed concern over the increasing tendency to form unions and associations without proper consultation, warning that such bodies could result in parallel authority, confusion and interference in local administration.
It stressed that an established mechanism already exists through the colony councils, district administration and police to address matters concerning business establishments, residents, safety, sanitation and welfare.
The Forum therefore requested the Deputy Commissioner to intervene and ensure that no unauthorized business organization is formed or allowed to function within Ward 20.
