JCF seeks ban on heavy vehicles during peak hours

DIMAPUR, AUG 14 (NPN): Joint Council Forum (JCF) Dimapur has appealed to the Dimapur traffic police to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles through the main town during school hours and other peak traffic periods, citing concerns over public safety.
In a press release, JCF said heavy vehicle movement through the main town had previously been restricted during school-going hours and peak periods, contributing to safer and smoother movement of the public.
However, the forum said heavy vehicles had recently been observed plying through the town during school hours and other busy periods.
JCF expressed particular concern over the safety of school-going children, pedestrians, two-wheeler riders and occupants of smaller vehicles. It said increasing traffic volume in Dimapur, coupled with the movement of heavy vehicles through congested roads, could heighten the risk of accidents and traffic disruptions.
The forum urged the traffic police to take necessary measures to regulate or restrict heavy vehicle movement during school hours and peak traffic periods. It suggested that wherever feasible heavy vehicles be encouraged to use the four-lane highway instead of main town roads.
JCF said the appeal was made in the spirit of cooperation and public safety and appreciated the continued efforts of the traffic police toward safer and smoother traffic management in Dimapur.
