DIMAPUR: Janata Dal (United) Nagaland has strongly condemned the act of vandalism and looting reportedly carried out around midnight of August 27 by a group of five unidentified persons at the residence of Mhao Yanthan, JDU Nagaland Youth President, at Santsuphen village under Wokha district.
Terming the incident as cowardly, unacceptable and deeply condemnable, JDU stated that such reckless acts of vandalism, theft and destruction have no place in a civilised society that upholds the rule of law, peace, democratic values and mutual respect.
It said targeting the residence and personal property of a political leader was not merely an attack on an individual but raised serious concerns about the safety and security of citizens and the maintenance of public order. The party maintained that no grievance or disagreement could justify resorting to violence, theft or destruction of private property, stressing that differences of opinion in a democratic society must be addressed through lawful and peaceful means.
JDU urged law enforcement authorities to take the incident seriously, conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, identify those responsible and take appropriate action in accordance with the law. It also called for adequate security measures to ensure the safety of political leaders, public representatives and citizens, and to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Appealing to all sections of society to remain calm and refrain from actions that may disturb peace and communal harmony, JDU asserted that the rule of law must prevail and those responsible must be held accountable through due process.
