Jeremy Nitova Zhimomi, aged 8, has become the youngest rated chess player from Nagaland after receiving his FIDE ELO rating of 1420 on January 1, 2026. The rating was conferred by the World Chess Federation (FIDE), informed International Arbiter Mughaho Awomi, who described the achievement as “a proud moment for the state.”
Jeremy, son of Anato Zhimomi and Naomo Zhimomi, is the grandson of late Khekiho Zhimomi, former minister and Rajya Sabha MP, and grandson-in-law of Dr. Neiphiu Rio, chief minister of Nagaland.
The milestone came following Jeremy’s debut performance at the 23rd North Eastern States Chess Championship 2025 held in December at Aizawl, Mizoram.
Despite being paired against six strong rated opponents with ratings of 1671, 1666, 1634, 1538 and 1445, along with one unrated player, Jeremy secured 3.5 points, earning his place in the FIDE rating list.
The Nagaland Chess Association has hailed the achievement as a historic boost for the state’s chess fraternity. In a congratulatory message, the Association lauded Jeremy for becoming the youngest FIDE rated player from Nagaland and wished him success in his endeavours. Jeremy has been coached by Dipankar N. Gosh.
