India pulled off a stunning five-wicket win over defending champions Australia at DY Patil Stadium on Thursday, October 30, chasing down a record target to enter the Women’s ODI World Cup final. Jemimah Rodrigues led the chase with an unbeaten 127, but the standout moment came after the match — when she opened up about her faith, mental struggles, and the Bible verse that held her together.
According to ET report, the Mumbai batter said she leaned on prayer and scripture through anxiety and setbacks, turning her knock into a moment of personal testimony as much as sporting success.
In her first words after the match, Jemimah pointed upward before speaking into the mic.
“Firstly i would like to thank Jesus as i couldn’t do it on my own,” she said during the presentation ceremony.
She revealed the Bible quote she kept repeating through the innings, “Stand still and god will fight for you”, explaining that it helped her stay calm and believe the moment would come. She shared that her faith was her anchor through a difficult phase.
“Things back-to-back kept happening and I couldn’t control anything. I have almost cried every day, I was not doing well mentally, going through a lot of anxiety. “Then being dropped was another challenge for me but I think all I had to do was show up and God took care of everything.” “Navi Mumbai has always been special for me… Every run they cheered, it pumped me up. I’m very grateful for the people who believed in me when I couldn’t and were there for me and understood me because I couldn’t do this on my own.”
“When I cannot carry on, my teammates can encourage me. Cannot take credit for anything, I did not do anything (on my own).”
