
NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer and minister PW (housing and mechanical) advisor youth resource and sports Er. Zale Neikha inaugurated Joggers’ Park and multipurpose hall NLA complex on Thursday respectively.
The joggers’ park having an area of 1018 meters was sanctioned under state plan during 2019-20 at the total cost of 70 lakh and was implemented by PWD (housing). The contract was allotted to M/s Orion enterprise class-I contractor under the architect Richard Belho on March 19.
The multipurpose hall project was conceptualised during 2015 to cater to indoor sports and hosting cultural, tribal, and youth related activities.
The project proposal was approved by NEC and received the sanction during 2015-2016 with the project cost of Rs. 647.54 lakh with sharing ratio of 90:10 between NEC and state government.
The facility at multipurpose hall has three badminton courts, multi utility hall, international standard gym with provision for the change room, green room and toilet blocks storage room and gallery.
Speaking at the inaugural function, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer said that maintaining health and building the immune system during the pandemic had become paramount and was confident that people who were not conscious of their health would also be encouraged.
He credited MLA Khriehu Liezietsu for initiating the project, department of youth resource and sports for bringing up the international standard gymnasium along with the hall, Richard Belho for conceptualising the park and PWD (housing) for bringing up quality making the best joggers’ park.
He said that antiquary development would be visible in a few months’ time.
Er. Zale Neikha asserted that the PDA government was committed for promotion of sports and games in Nagaland and remained one of the main thrust areas of PDA government.
He informed that the department had undertaken five major infrastructure projects in the state under Khelo India and which were expected to be completed by next year.
Further, with the huge success of synthetic turf at IG stadium, he said the department initiated installation of synthetic turfs at Dimapur, Tuensang, Mon and Mokokchung from various schemes of the state and centre.
He said that the department was keen on making the multi-disciplinary sports centre functional for which necessary preparation of DPR was at final stages of submission by the consultant.
With selection of IG stadium to be established as Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) to strengthen India’s pursuit of excellence in Olympics, the talented sportspersons of the state can now have a great opportunity for competition at the regional, national international level, he added.
Minister PWD (housing) Tongpang Ozukum said that even as Kohima had become a space crunch city to undertake any development, NLA had preserved the area and said more parks and recreational halls were necessary in the state capital.
Minister planning and coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs, Neiba Kronu said the proposal for construction of the speaker’s quarter would be taken up next year.
He informed that the government intends to open more parks in the districts for which, DCs were informed to identify government sites.
Kronu further informed that MLA hostel up-gradation was under process.
Earlier, commissioner and secretary NLA Dr. Antony delivered a welcome address while a technical report was presented by the department of PWD (housing and mechanical) and YR&S.
Meanwhile, commissioner and secretary YR&S, Alun Hansing handed over the MOU between the department of YR&S and NLA.
