Jotsoma village observed “population meet” with various traditional festivities at the village local ground, here on Friday.
Speaker of the meet, Keneizhakho Nakhro MLA of 8 Western Angami A/C called on the village folks to reassess their achievement and address the issues that hampers progress.
Drawing comparisons between now and 60 years ago when Nagaland got its statehood, Nakhro said there had been tremendous change and life in general had become easier now.
He said with technological advancement and easy availability of modern amenities people were leading better lives.
However, he wondered if whether the people now were developing in proportion with all the facilities at their disposal as against the older population who had no access to such provisions.
He pointed that the older generation had made tremendous contributions not just to the village but even at the state level.
Giving his observation on the present literacy situation of the village, Nakhro said when compared with the present total population and household the number of graduates and educated youths was low.
He also pointed out that there was also a drop in the number of children in classes A to 8 as there were only 856 against the population of 5068 and 1180 households.
The celebration was led by Pfükhrielie Peseyie, while Rev Zakiebeinyü invoked God’s blessings and Pfüneinyü Nakhro pronounced the elder’s blessings.
Greetings was extended by village council chairman, Rüdolie Nagi while head GB Zakiebito Senotsu and Dr Lhuviralie Nakhro gave short speeches.
Special presentations were made by Thekrünoma and Tsieyama khels.
Khunyü Rino proposed the vote of thanks and Rev Fr Dr Pezalhoukho George Rino offered the benediction.
Jotsoma has four khels- Thekrünoma, Khwüma, Tsieyama and Tholoma.
