Conveying its condolences to victims of the tragic incident that occurred at 7th Mile Chumoukedima on July 26 evening and in which one person died on the spot, Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) has expressed its exasperation at the alleged negligence and failure of the highway construction company to take precautionary measures for safety and security of the people.
Having learnt after verifying about the incident on spot and obtaining necessary details from the police that the contractor failed to procure approval or inform the traffic department, police, administration and local bodies about the ongoing road development works, CYO urged the contractor to give prior information to the traffic personnel and administration for public safety and smooth work progress.
It warned the contractor against compromising in any manner on public safety and road development work, besides asking it to strictly adhere to public safety guidelines.
Urging law enforcing agencies to book the culprits and compensate the victims as per the law of the land, the organisation warned that failure to abide by the terms and conditions and safety guidelines would compel it to take its own democratic course of action.
Further, CYO urged the State government to take initiatives for developmental works across the State, which the public had been yearning for decades.
Meanwhile, the organisation also reminded the contractors to maintain the roads and timely water them as dust posed a major health threat for the people in general. It also announced extending its support to the ongoing development work from Purana Bazar to Chathe river bridge, Chumoukedima.
This was stated in a press release by CYO president Seyieneilhou Keyho and general secretary Noseho Peter.
