June 16 polling day declared paid holiday in Wokha Ward 8

DIMAPUR: In pursuance of the Home Department’s notification, Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao has declared June 16, 2026, the date of polling for Ward No.8 (Tsumang B), as a paid holiday for employees in the notified ward to enable them to exercise their franchise.
The order also extends to employees enrolled as electors under the ward but ordinarily residing or working elsewhere.
The circular further stated that under the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1981 (Act XXVI), the polling date will be observed as paid holiday for employees of banks and financial institutions in Nagaland registered as electors in the ward.
Additionally, under Section 10 of the Nagaland Shops and Establishments Act, 1982, all shops and commercial establishments owned, managed or run by persons registered as electors in the ward shall remain closed during polling hours to facilitate voting.
The DC’s order also clarified that in the event of a repoll, the day fixed by the State Election Commission shall likewise be observed as public holiday for the concerned electors.
However, the provisions will not apply to electors whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of their employment.
