In an effort to curb the menace of substance abuse and the rise of “gang or groups involved in fighting and creating havoc” within the locality, Jail Ward Public Union (JWPU) Kiphire on September 21 conducted an emergency meeting at Public Ground Kiphire and adopted resolutions.
In a press release, JWPU executive chairman, Yanglitong and JWPU chairman, Thritsali Sangtam stated that JWPU endorsed and reaffirmed a meeting resolution adopted by the Joint Coordination Committee on August 26, 2022 under the banner of Kiphire Town GB’s Union.
As per the direction from the joint coordination committee, JWPU said it has resolved to ban growing of marijuana (ganja) plant within its jurisdiction and to impose fine on defaulters. JWPU has also resolved to penalise anyone disturbing the peaceful environment of the ward under the influence of substances or intoxicated things. JWPU to immediately expelled/excommunicate anyone found selling, buying or using illegal drugs and to strongly denounce youths/children forming a gang or group and creating unwanted situation in the town. The union said it would not allow more than five youths to loiter around the ward after 7 p.m. without any valid reason. It has has further resolved to form Jail Ward Vigilant Team with 10 members from six zones under jail ward so as to check anti-social activities in the ward.
