Minister of Power & Parliamentary Affairs K.G. Kenye lauded Chakhesang mothers for their role in preserving and practicing the rich culture, tradition and customs of the community.
Speaking as special guest at the 13th General Conference of Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) held at Thenyizumi village, Phek district on Saturday under the theme “Give to gain”, Kenye said upright women with strong character and moral values would go a long way in building a safe, secure and prosperous society.
“The society will never go wrong when your character and moral are strong,” he maintained, while urging mothers to be mindful of the dimensions between religion and education, advancement and modernity, civilization and way of life. He stressed that while changes must be embraced, rich traditions and customary practices should be upheld.
Kenye also cautioned women to differentiate merits and demerits and focus on a balanced life. Lauding their pivotal role, he said women have always salvaged nations in times of trouble and emergency. On the issue of 33% women reservation, he hoped it would not create division among womenfolk or dismantle unity.
Guest of honour, advisor CAWD & Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, urged mothers to propagate culture and tradition to children and instill values of trustworthiness and hard work. He suggested CMA frame a comprehensive strategy for all-round development of women and adopt the concept of “One Family, One Project” for sustainable livelihood and improved family economy.
Chakhesang Public Organisation president, Vezuhu Keyho, in his greetings described women as peacemakers and urged CMA to continue serving as a platform of strong social connection for a healthy society.
CMA president, Zhonelu Tunyi, in her address thanked individuals and frontal organisations for their support, mentioning that since its formation in 1984, CMA has been voicing for the voiceless and working for positive change and progress.
A collaborative programme between CMA and State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Nagaland was also held, with consultant Risuhlu Rhakho speaking on “Building women and girl-friendly villages.” CMA general secretary, Kezevinuo Krome, highlighted activities undertaken during 2023-25.
Meanwhile, the nomination committee announced the new CMA team for 2026-28 with Zhonelu Tunyi as president; vice presidents– Neichulou Tsuzu and Kezevinuo Krome; general secretary– Thujongolu Veswu.
