
Lone Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), KG Kenye, who also a member of the Parliamentary National Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Wednesday visited food and civil supplies (F&CS) directorate in Dimapur to take stock of the supply of essential commodities in the wake of the nationwide lockdown and also “to prepare for the issuing Parliamentary National Standing Committee due very soon.”
In a press release, PRO to MP (Rajya Sabha) said the MP during his visit held meeting with the officials from Food Corporation of India (FCI) Nagaland and state department of F&CS.
At the meeting, Kenye expressed his appreciation to the frontline workers in the state, who were sacrificing and risking their lives to combat the virus in spite of criticisms from certain corners. He urged them not to be discouraged as criticism and allegation were part of life.
MP lauded the FCI and F&CS department for judiciously managing with the allocation of the state’s quota. He reminded that the consignment be properly disinfected before being ferried to other parts of the State. Kenye also expressed his deep concern for people who did not have ration cards.
Further, MP appreciated the extra efforts being taken by the Dimapur district administration, other officers and all the stakeholders. He appealed to all responsible be more vigilant in dealing with the situation.
Kenye also suggested that more consultative meeting should be held as the prevailing situation require better coordination.
Advisor F&CS Pukhayi also attended the meeting along with commissioner & secretary F&CS and addressed the meeting. F&CS director highlighted the total allocation received for the State under various scheme and the quantity being distributed to each district. The director requested the general public not to panic as sufficient stock was available.
The chief manager of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, pointed out that the state has lesser depot capacity for petrol, diesel, SK oil and LPG compared to other north east states. He therefore requested the government to take up the matter with the ministry for enhancement of the capacity.
ADC Dimapur, DMC administrator, president and general secretary of Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association also highlighted their activities. Later, the MP inspected the FCI food storage depot.
