After reports of chickens being supplied under unhygienic conditions in Karbi Anglong and neighbouring states, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) under the directives of chief executive member Dr. Tuliram Ronghang has decided to enforce strict checking of entry/exit of poultry under its jurisdiction.
According to sources, starting July 24, entry/exit of poultry would first have to be certified by doctors from the veterinary department before supplying to the market.
Sources said that the move also comes following complaints of dead chickens being supplied to neighbouring states like Nagaland. Sources further said that the initiative is being done to ensure that only certified chickens are being supplied and sold in the market. It was also clarified that the rates would remain the same.
