PWD (Roads & Bridges) minister, G. Kaito Aye, on Monday inspected the landslide-affected stretch of NH-2 near Kisama to assess the ongoing restoration efforts.
The minister took stock of the damage and progress being made to restore the interstate highway.
Kaito appreciated the efforts of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and contractors and urged them to expedite the restoration work with full dedication. He reminded that the highway served as a crucial interstate route and a lifeline for Manipur, necessitating prompt and efficient action.
The minister further informed that the government was prioritizing the restoration of NH-2 and urged all stakeholders to cooperate for swift completion.
Minister was accompanied by department officials, including the chief engineer PWD (R&B), superintending engineer and executive engineer of the south division. Officials informed that jungle clearing for an alternate road alignment was underway with the cooperation of local landowners. Meanwhile, the exit roads of Kisama Heritage Village have been opened as a temporary passage for light vehicles.
Further, chief engineer PWD (R&B) informed that Chakhabama-Kezocha-Kidima route, connecting Pudunamei in Manipur, remained operational for the movement of essential goods vehicles during the NH blockade.
