Kasunga Victoria Kuba is spelling Bee Champion 2018

Kasunga Victoria Kuba of Model Higher Secondary School Kohima emerged as the champion of the 7th Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship 2018, which concluded on Friday evening at State Capital Convention centre, Kohima.

Speller Kasunga overwhelmed her 60 competitors during the two day event. 

In the final round, the speller champion spelled “Kaleidoscope” and “Sine Qua Non” which helped her secure the championship after many tough rounds.

Vijayanand V. Thomas of St. Mary Higher Secondary School Kohima and Kethono Thorie of Trinity School Kohima and Dzuveno Keyho of Great Mission Higher Secondary School Dimapur secured the second, third and fourth positions respectively. 

The winner received a cash prize of Rs. 60,000, a trophy and citation, while the runners up received Rs. 40,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 along with mementos and citations. 

The quarter finalists received Rs. 5000 while Kevivor Joshua Meru of G. Rio School Kohima was declared the ‘Young Speller’ and pocketed Rs. 4000 cash, a citation and a memento. 

Speaking at the closing function, bee special invitee, principal secretary of School Education, Menukhol John congratulated the participants and encouraged the Fountain Club to organize the event on an even bigger scale in the coming years.

John opined that the event should be popularized and asked the students to encourage their friends to be competitive, because such friendly competition was a step ahead towards living successful lives.

It may be mentioned that Model HSS Kohima has been has been winning this contest for the last four consecutive years. The event was organised by Fountain Club in collaboration with SCERT.
