KBSU holds 68th general session, cultural day

Khulazu Basa Students’ Union (KBSU) observed its 68th general session and cultural day, under the theme “Krütsazho thikeyhepü dorhükevelü sükeyi,” on December 27 at Government Primary School – A in Khulazu Basa Village, Phek district.

At the function, retired assistant director of Social Welfare Department and finance secretary of Chakhesang Public Organisation, Satahi Shüjo, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and traditions.

He encouraged the younger generation to learn from the elders’ stories, culture and traditions of the past, noting that such knowledge can’t be found easily on the internet and urged them to cherish the opportunity to learn directly from those who experienced it.

He emphasized the importance of documenting traditions and encouraged recording folk songs, stories, and crafts to preserve them for future generations. He appealed to the elders to teach the younger generation folk songs and how to wear traditional clothing, as these practices were at the risk of disappearing.

Earlier, the gathering was also addressed by KBSU president Kuzoto Keyho, KBSUK president Nühüta Tetseo, Senior Citizen chairman Khulazu Basa Zühücho Rhakho, and acting chairman Village Council Züvehü Rhakho.

Several individuals were acknowledged for their achievements in various fields, along with the “Best” parents and teachers. The Nerenyü Ngolüyi Kezo award, for outstanding academic performance in 2024, was presented to Rakhoyi Rhakho and Khrusalu Rhakho.

Additionally, Anuvelu Yhosa from GPS A Khulazu Basa was honored for securing a top 8 position in the class 5 board examination under the SDEO Chozuba circle. Indigenous games including fire making, Naga traditional dice game, tug of war, and war cry were also conducted.
