Kohima College, Kohima (KCK) celebrated its 56th Fresher’s Day on August 23, officially welcoming its newly admitted undergraduate students. The event was graced by Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose, as the guest speaker. Sekhose reflected on the college’s journey from its humble beginnings as a night school to a premier educational institution and urged students to embrace opportunities across academics, sports, and emerging fields.
Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü congratulated the freshers and highlighted the college’s academic successes, with 13 students placing in the Top-10 of Nagaland University. He encouraged students to uphold the college motto, “Search for Excellence,” and contribute to its growth.
The event also saw the induction of the Kohima College Students’ Council (KCSC) Executives for 2025-26, with outgoing general secretary, Chutatu C. Thupitor presenting the report of the previous year’s activities. Incoming general secretary, Yeshika Achumi promised new ideas and initiatives.
The Mr. & Miss Fresher 2025 contest was a key highlight, with Mhalezolie and Nyahpo Pinyeih crowned winners. The celebration included cultural performances, including a duet by Bowe Elah and Wetshelhi Chirah.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by KCSC assistant general secretary, Rülevelü Shijoh.
Patkai Christian College (Autonomous)
Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) held its Freshers’ Social at the Bundrock Auditorium on August 23 under the theme “Genesis: A Journey Towards Excellence”, welcoming new students with a vibrant celebration of culture, talent, and inspiration.
Gracing the occasion as guest speaker, Director of Higher Education, V. Lovitoli Sema, described the theme as “profound and inspiring,” and urged students to embrace their new beginning with curiosity, humility, and discipline. She reminded the freshers that college is not only a place for academic growth but for personal transformation, and encouraged them to become individuals of “character, compassion, and vision.”
Reflecting on her own experience as an alumna of Patkai, Sema expressed gratitude for the values instilled by the college and lauded its role in nurturing holistic excellence.
Earlier, principal Dr. Thepfuvilie Pieru welcomed the gathering, while SUPCC president Heme Sumao and freshers’ representative Sentijungla M also addressed the event. The program featured vibrant cultural and musical performances by students from the Margaret Shishak School of Music (MSSM) and other guest artists.
A major highlight was the Mr & Miss Patkai 2025 contest. Yongkonglemba Chang and Yume Doke were crowned the winners, with runner-up titles going to Akivi V. Asumi and Chingmi Khangrah. Special titles included Mr/Miss Perfect and Mr/Miss Multimedia. Judges included Hikali Achumi, Miss Nagaland 2022 and Miss Beautiful Smile Northeast 2023, Chanchui Khayi, Femina Miss India Manipur 2024 and Mega Miss Northeast India 2023 and Hangba Chang, winner of I Am Model Search International Malaysia 2023 and Mr Global Model India 2022.
St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama
St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama (SJC-A) celebrated its 38th Fresher’s Day on August 23 at the college Indoor Stadium, extending a warm welcome to 1,224 newly admitted students into its Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.
The programme was graced by president, Naga Mother’s Association (NMA), Vilanuo Angela Yhome, who attended as the guest speaker. Addressing the gathering, Yhome emphasized the importance of remaining rooted in cultural identity and community values as a foundation for building a better society.
Representing the collective voice of mothers, she urged students to uphold honesty, a virtue she noted is increasingly rare in today’s world, and encouraged them to continue practicing the hard work that brought them to college. She also offered a powerful message on inclusivity and contribution, stating that even so-called “backbenchers” can often contribute more meaningfully to society than perceived public leaders.
In his welcome address, principal, SJC (A), Fr. Dr. George Keduolhou Angami, encouraged freshers to pursue a balanced life between academics and extracurricular pursuits. He acknowledged the excitement that comes with starting college and urged students to take full advantage of the many opportunities the institution offers.
The programme was chaired by Tarevi Rome and Ralu Yhobu, welcome song by campus hostellers, a special song was presented by Samuel Subba and Vehuno Thongru, speech on behalf of the seniors was delivered by Students’ Council, SJC (A), president, Kakito K. Awomi and Introduction of the freshers by class representatives. The college Dance Club also performed a lively number, and the programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Wenisa Pojar.
Norman Putsure College
Norman Putsure College hosted its 4th Annual Freshers’ Day at the college auditorium under the theme “Coastal Soiree,” welcoming new students with a mix of formal addresses and lively performances.
Principal Dr. K. Timothy Langwangbe encouraged students to embrace opportunities beyond academics, while chief guest Chümoukedima, EAC Seyievilie Pfükri, shared insights from his journey in public service and urged students to stay consistent in their efforts. Representing the freshers, Hmingropuii described college life as a “blank canvas” full of possibilities.
The informal session featured songs, dances, and a creative shadow play by seniors. The highlight was the Mr. & Miss Fresher 2025 Contest, where
Imlikaba Jamir was crowned as Mr. Fresher and Neinunthem Tuboi as Miss Fresher: Yimtijungshi Ozukum & Hmingropuii, Phukito and Neivino Tsükru were declared as 1st and 2nd Runners-up respectively.
