High Level Committee (HLC) of Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) comprising its president, vice presidents, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) members and assembly constituency congress committee presidents held an emergency meeting at Congress Bhavan Kohima on Tuesday.
In a press release, sessional secretary Ako Zhasa informed that after thorough deliberations, the HLC constituted a seven-member election committee for Kohima district headed by former minister Seyiekuolie Kesiezie as convener and KDCC president Kevi Vizo as co-convener. The committee was entrusted to formulate strategies to contest and win all seven seats of the district in the ensuing 2023 state elections.
The house strongly condemned the December 4 and 5 atrocities of the security forces and extended sympathy towards the bereaved family members and the Konyak brethren. It assured all support in their fight for justice.
It cautioned security forces “not to misuse AFSPA” against innocent civilians and said that it was a draconian law and should be repealed immediately.
KDCC appreciated president of AICC Sonia Gandhi for the concern shown towards the suffering of the Nagas and immediately deputing a high delegation to conduct spot verification.
It expressed anguish over the “false and misleading statement” of union home minister Amit Shah in the parliament on December 6 that “during the ambush, a vehicle approached the location and it was signalled to stop. However, the vehicle tried to flee, following which the vehicle suspected to be carrying insurgents, was fired upon”.
It also discussed the Hornbill festival held amid the pandemic which it said was “utterly neglected by the government of the day” with no proper screening of visitors and other measures to check the laid down SOPs. “The SOPs should not only be on papers but proper mechanisms and adequate man-power should be put in place in order to enforce the laid down norms”, it stated.
