KDCC slams formation of all-party government

‘Nug another bid by ruling & oppn parties to fulfil political ambitions’

Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) has termed the proposed Nagaland United Government (NUG) as another attempt by both the ruling and opposition parties in the State to fulfil their own political ambitions at the cost of general public.

Demandingthat the parties make their stand clear on Naga integration without which a solution to the vexed struggle would be farce, KDCC president Kevi Vizo in a press release also insisted that they should also make their proposals public on the approach towards facilitating the Naga solution under NUG.

He said KDCC was dumbfounded at the decision of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) constituents Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP to have an opposition-less government taking on board opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) on the pretext of Naga political solution.

He alleged that an opposition-less government was the brain-child of NPF as it had managed to lure eight Congress MLAs in 2015 into the then DAN government on the same excuse of strengthening the efforts to find a solution to the Naga political problem.

Vizo said the last opposition-less DAN government was still fresh as it functioned out of either Kaziranga or Sovima.

Pointing out that the Government of India as well as its interlocutor and governor RN Ravi had time and again reiterated that integration of Naga-inhabited areas was not possible and also refused to grant separate Naga flag and constitution, he expressed surprised that the present NDPP-led PDA government had constituted a Parliamentary Committee on Naga political issue (NPI) with all members of Nagaland Legislative Assembly and two MPs of the State as members, with a core committee to take forward the issue.

The KDCC president questioned whether the coming together of legislators under the banner of Parliamentary Committee on NPI was not enough for them to strengthen the Naga issue and also persuade the national leadership to grant a solution that NPF legislators have to join the ruling dispensation “superseding all norms of a democratic setup”.

Mentioning that an honourable and acceptable political solution was very dear to every Naga, he recalled that legislators from both ruling and opposition parties had come together in the past to work together to facilitate the Naga political solution, which they could still continue to do.

“Cannot the opposition members maintain the decorum by being in their own jurisdiction to voice the concern of public and keep the government on its toes for the general welfare, while also working cohesively with the treasury bench to facilitate the Naga political issue?” he asked.

He also stressed that Naga political struggle should be people-centric and not an instrument for the elected representatives to fool the general public for their own political gains.

Meanwhile, appreciating the article written on Naga political issue by Sevotso Seyie, the KDCC president said it was indeed time for every conscious Naga to rise up to the occasion and express his or her views and opinions in order to have a clear understanding within the Naga family.

He also urged civil society organisations in the State to wake up from slumber and work towards voicing the welfare of general public, instead of being fooled with false assurances of the elected representatives.
