
Legal service clinic (LSC) under Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) was inaugurated by NSLSA member secretary Longshithung Ezung at Christian Mission School (CMS) Sechü (Zubza) on August 31.
A press release from NSLSA public relations assistant stated that, this is the 11th legal service clinic in Kohima district, under KDLSA.
Member secretary N Longshithung Ezung, during the inaugural speech apprised the gathering of the hierarchical frame of the legal services fraternity in rendering free and competent legal services to the people starting from the national legal services authority down to the state authorities and districts.
He also stated that its dual purpose was to administer in giving awareness and education on accessible rights, empowerment and privileges available to the citizens provided by other government departments and agencies.
He expressed that the newly inaugurated LSC will cater its service to the entire Sechü (Zubza) region through the active acumen of the para legal volunteers (PLVs). He called upon the PLVs to work with the motive to voluntarily serve the people while calling for the active participation and cooperation of the village leaders. Earlier, two PLVs were newly appointed.
Phuleto Yeptho, CJM, Kohima & secretary DLSA, Kohima supplemented that the legal services authority also acted as an agent of administering justice to the poor and downtrodden people by providing free legal services in the conduct of cases before courts and tribunals.
Mhomo Tungoe, SDO (civil), Sechü (Zubza) opined that CMS which has been providing quality education for the region and villages nearby will be further empowered to make the LSC an example of social service and justice.
Earlier, the programme was held at the Village Council Hall, Sechü (Zubza), chaired by KDLSA panel lawyer Apila Sangtam and VC member Neiphi Viya welcomed the gathering. Rüngutuo, proprietor of the school and Zasitsolie, PL also gave short speeches.
NSLSA theme song was presented by Chandmari Highter Secondary School, Kohima Legal Literacy Club and Christian Mission School students also presented special song. The prizes for the essay competition held during the month of August on the topic “right to education” were also given away.
LSC has been equipped with all necessary furniture, computer set and printer, books and booklets. Around 150 people comprising of village leaders, school faculty, students attended the programme.
