KDTF on total ban of single use plastics conduct 3rd round of checking in Kma

Kohima district task force (KDTF) on total ban of single use plastic conducted its third checking and confiscation exercise covering the whole of Kohima town on December 19. 

According to DIPR report, the KDTF on total ban of single use plastic comprising of members from the district administration, various other departments and public organizations conducted the checking exercise with the objective of enforcing  the total ban imposed on all single use plastic products. It was also to restrict all shops within the Kohima jurisdiction from selling and using plastic bags, polypropylene bags, mineral water bottles below 1 ltrs, styrofoam cups and plates, plastic cups, forks and spoons and a number of other single use non biodegradable plastic products. 

KDTF on total ban of single use plastics conducted the checking exercise with its members divided into a five different teams, each covering different areas. A large number of shops were caught still selling the banned single use plastic products. The erring shopkeepers were fined and let off with a final warning. The banned products were all confiscated by the teams for disposal. 

With the government of Nagaland working tirelessly to make Nagaland a plastic free state, the efforts of the KDTF on total ban on single use plastics is indeed making a difference with a huge decrease in the output of non-biodegradable plastic waste. Though there is still need for improvement on the level of awareness and participation among the general public, the efforts of the KDTF on total ban of single use plastics has contributed a lot in Kohima’s strive towards a plastic free city.
