Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, along with the officials from state transport department attended the inaugural meeting of the first ever Inland Development Council meeting held at Cruise Vessel Ganges Queen on January 8, 2024 under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonawal. Officials from different states and UT also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, KG Kenye highlighted the necessity and potentiality of the Inland water transport in the state of Nagaland taking consideration of landlocked state and bordering to Myanmar. While emphasising on the Centre’s ‘Look East Policy’, Kenye requested the waterways ministry to expedite execution of the National Waterways-101 Tizu-Zungki project, which has been in the pipeline for many years.
He also highlighted the need to take up techno economic feasibility studies for NW 31 Dhansari for Cargo and traffic movement and Doyang reservoir to promote water tourism. State government officials who accompanied the minister included secretary Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, additional secretary Sentiwapang Aier, OST transport Myingthungo Ababe Ezung and Thomas Y Kiutsangmong DGM NST and officials from the transport department.
