State level parliamentary quiz competition was held at ATI imagine hall, Kohima on Friday, organised by the department of parliamentary affairs Nagaland.
Special guest Minister of Power and parliamentary affairs KG Kenye in his speech said that each generation must grow up to be responsible citizens in order to contribute to nation-building. He noted the significance of parliamentary democracy and expressed that every citizen, being raised in a democratic country, should embody responsibility and active participation in the international community.
Kenye stressed the importance of guiding, teaching, and familiarizing young individuals with democratic principles from an early age in order to shape their outlook and way of life. He added that it should be a natural and integrated quality for citizens of a democratic country to practice and embrace democratic principles as an inherent part of their lives.
Kenye emphasized on the importance of practicing parliamentary democracies even in private lives and also addressed the impact of technology, stating that while it has made the world more interconnected, individuals should exercise caution when consuming online content and not promote fake news. He further advised the students to remain focused on their education and avoid distractions, emphasizing the importance of diligence and encouraged them not to be disheartened by job scarcity, but to work hard and remain optimistic for a brighter and more opportunistic future.
He acknowledged the government’s responsibility for not providing ample opportunities but affirmed their commitment to prioritizing the future of children. “The state government is putting in its best efforts, and with over 60 percent employment allocation within the state apparatus, we are surpassing the average of 30 percent seen in other states.
However, we are constrained beyond this point. Therefore, it is crucial to seek involvement from the private sector to establish a more supportive socio-political environment, a primary challenge being the availability of local logistics such as manpower, skilled labor, and resources,” Kenye stated. He further emphasized that the government is dedicated to creating increased job opportunities and employment for educated youth in the coming years.
12 districts participated in the competition Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tuensang , Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto.
