Minister of Power K.G Kenye highlighted the power issues and development of plans in power sector in Nagaland at the 25th North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) meeting hosted by NTPC Limited in Kolkata on December 9.
Addressing the meeting, Kenya said that strict Prequalifying Criteria and the Result Evaluation Framework of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) was suitable for DISCOMS and it was difficult to fulfill the criteria for small states like Nagaland as it depends 100% budgetary support from the state government.
He also impressed the forum to expedite the process for up-gradation of SCADA/EMS in the North Eastern Region. Kenya also brought to the notice of the forum on the existing Line Man Training Centre (LMTC) at Dimapur set up in 1970’s which was ill equipped and outdated.
He therefore requested for establishment of State-of-the-Art Training Centre in all North Eastern States within the Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening (CBIS) of NERPSIP project.
The meeting was organized by NERPC, and many critical issues of power sector in the North Eastern States of India were addressed and the members at the meeting deliberated for achieving the challenges and planned for optimum development of the power sector in the region.
The meeting was chaired by NERPC chairman and Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister, Chowna Mein. The meeting was attended by Power Minister of Northeast states, Nandita Gorlosa (Assam), Abu Taher Mondal (Meghalaya), Ratan Lal Nath (Tripura), Arunachal’s Power Advisor Balo Raja, NERPC Member Secretary Kishore B. Jagtap and officers of the Central and State governments and representatives from Central Power Sector and State Power Utilities.
Officials from Department of Power Nagaland led by Er. Moa Aier, Engineer-in-Chief and Er. Rukongutuo Suohu, Superintending Engineer along with other senior officials of SLDC also attended the meeting.
