Keoshu inaugurates State Jamborette at Nerhema

DIMAPUR: Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports and president of the State Bharat Scouts and Guides, S. Keoshu Yimchunger, officially inaugurated the Nagaland State Jamborette 2026 as the special guest at the State Training Centre, Nerhema, on October 7. The event is being celebrated under the theme, “Serving Community, Preserving Culture.”
According to a DIPR report, addressing the gathering, Yimchunger said that the jamborette serves as an important platform for Scouts and Guides to come together to learn, serve, share experiences, build friendships and discover new skills while appreciating diverse cultures. He emphasized that the activities promote discipline, leadership, teamwork, self-reliance, respect and service, helping young people become responsible citizens who contribute positively to society and the future of the state.
Highlighting the significance of co-curricular activities, he stated that education should extend beyond textbooks, examinations and classrooms. According to him, while classroom learning imparts knowledge, activities under Scouting and Guiding help students apply that knowledge through cooperation, communication, creativity, leadership and community service. He encouraged students across Nagaland to enrol in the Bharat Scouts and Guides and actively participate in its programmes.
Urging participants to carry the spirit of service beyond the jamborette, Yimchunger called on them to practise the values and skills of Scouting and Guiding in their daily lives. He later declared the State Jamborette 2026 officially open.
The special guest also hoisted the Scout flag and took the salute from parade contingents representing ten districts, namely Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. He further congratulated the State Organising Committee for hosting the event successfully and felicitated president Scout and President Guide awardees, including students from Vidya Bhawan Higher Secondary School, Dimapur and Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Chubanungla, described the State Jamborette 2026 as a historic event being held after a gap of 25 years since the last jamborette in 2001. She said participants would showcase their talents through folk songs, folk dances, quizzes, pageants, district exhibitions, gate displays, food plazas and traditional games, while also fostering friendship and understanding among diverse communities.
The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by State Secretary, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Er. Thepfuzakie Angami. The event was attended by State Council members, state and district officials, unit leaders, Commandant 17 Assam Rifles Tijo Joseph and a medical team from the Chief Medical Officer’s office, Kohima.
