Late Kevitsielezo Phizo, the son of late AZ Phizo was laid to rest in the premises of his private residence at Mission Compound here on Friday afternoon after a grand funeral service held at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima. He passed away on January 17 evening at his residence leaving behind three sons and a daughter after a prolonged illness. Late Kevitsielezo was born in 1952 and was 66 years of age.
His wife Medovino Phizo, in her speech, said that they had been blessed with five children (however one son passed away) and four grandchildren. She said that together as a couple, they had went through both good and bad times.
Speaking about her late husband, she said he had been suffering from diabetes and kidney problems for over five years and throughout his illness, he rarely complained, and was always full of gratitude.
Medovino added that the best moments with him were the times spent in prayer and she recalled that her late husband had not been afraid to die and was mentally prepared to face it. She expressed gratitude to all well wishers, friends and close ones who supported them throughout their hour of grief and also during his sickness.
Khrieleno Terhüja also spoke during the funeral service where she shared on the struggles and sufferings they had gone through for the cause of the Naga movement when they were young in the mid 1950s. She also narrated stories involving Kevitsielezo’s father, AZ Phizo, during the peak of the Naga political movement.
The program was led by Vilalhoulie Chielie, Ako Whiso read from the Bible, Union Baptist Church presented a special song. Jasazzo Phizo spoke a vote of gratitude and pastor UBC, Rev. Rachiilie Vihienuo, ministered the funeral service. Condolences messages from many personalities, including chief minister Neiphiu Rio, were read out.
The funeral service was attended, among others, by near and dear ones, friends, Church members, and leaders of various organizations.
