Key functionaries, teachers trained on pre-vocational education

A three-day, “Training Programme on Pre-vocational Education for the Key Functionaries and Teachers of Nagaland” was inaugurated by Dr H. N. Dutta, Vice-Chancellor, Global Open University, Nagaland at AIDA, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Campus, Dimapur on March 7.
The training programme was by the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), a constituent unit of NCERT, under Ministry of Education, Government of India in association with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Nagaland.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Dutta highlighted the recommendations of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focused on the need for promoting prevocational education, 10 bagless days and vocational education in schools for making youth employable and self-reliant. He said vocational education should be imparted to preserve cultural heritage, traditional art and craft, indigenous knowledge (Lok Vidya), besides the future skills to prepare youth for the 21st century.
48 key functionaries from SCERT, Department of School Education, Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE), District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and Teachers of Schools are participating in the three-day programme. Dr Zavise Rume, Professor and Head, Vocational Education, SCERT welcomed the participants and informed about the initiatives taken by the Department of School Education and SCERT in promoting prevocational education and vocational education in the State.
Prof. Vinay Swarup Mehrotra, Head, Curriculum Development and Evaluation Centre, PSSCIVE, Bhopal was the key resource persons and has been conducting the sessions on planning and implementation of the pre-vocational education programme.
