
A new method using mechanisation for paddy cultivation has been introduced by the Agriculture department Nagaland for Kezoma Village since 2013-2015 at ‘fora Terrace Fields’ where the farmers were trained and taught to cultivate with the latest technological methods on agriculture.
Kezoma Village Council has expressed gratitude to the department for ushering in a kind of ‘green revolution’ in the village, which has also been acknowledged and appreciated by many who visited the village.
According to KVC chairman Puhovi Tase and KVC secretary Pusato Zecho, the new principle of mechanisation of paddy cultivation was found to be more productive and easier to cultivate compared with the traditional method.
Under the new method, what used to take ten persons for transplantation was done only by five persons. Even clearing unwanted plants and removing weeds which used to be done by ten persons, is being done only by five persons.
On harvesting the crops, the normal ancestral paddy field that is annually gathered, yields ten sack-bags. Under the new method, the yield increased to 15 sack-bags.
The total household of Kezoma Village is 280 and out of which 270 approximately have adopted the Agri-Paddy cultivation under “Tora Terrace Project Area”.
Tora Terrace Project area has greatly benefited the farmer’s harvest and presently, the entire area of Kezoma Village soon adopted the new method of cultivation.
While introducing the new mechanised cultivation method, the Director Agriculture entrusted the training to DAO Kohima, who in turn and along with subordinate officers such as, SDO, AGO and other staff, imparted education and training to the village farmers.
Besides impartation of training in transplantation and cultivation of paddy, the department officers and staff also educated the village on agricultural work ethics to while employing the new pattern of Agricultural mechanization.
In tune with the introduction of the new method, authorities from the department such as Director and APC including experts from Delhi regularly visited the village project fields to monitor the progress of the works.
KVC also said the department has also constructed the “Tora Terrace Fields” RCC Dam for the village. KVC said the department officers and staff have been enthusiastically teaching the farmers of the work progressively since the past three years.
KVC chairman and secretary also informed that the village hopes to spread knowledge and information about the advent of the new agriculture method for paddy cultivation which had proved hugely successful in the village. Even other neighbouring villages used to visit the paddy fields to learn and study about the new method, said KVC.
