Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, emphasized the importance of truthfulness, values, and integrity in both society and the church, noting that retrospection and introspection are vital for building an upright community.
He was speaking at the 44th general session of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) held at Town Hall, Phek, on February 21.
Appreciating the vision of pioneers and leaders of the Chakhesang tribe, Khamo urged the people to uphold cultural identity and traditions, and to stand by resolutions adopted by the CPO, including prohibition on pig/pork and preservation of flora and fauna. He stressed that honesty and integrity must define both professional and personal life, and called for collective efforts to combat social evils such as substance abuse.
Highlighting unity as the strength of the people, Khamo underscored the need for peace, justice, and oneness. He advocated initiatives such as “One Family, One Project; One Family, One Entrepreneur” and “One Family, One Prayer Time,” while encouraging optimal use of government-aided funds to support farmers and families. He further appealed for preservation of cultural identity alongside Christian values.
On the occasion, CPO president Vezuhu Keyho delivered the presidential address, calling for unity and anchoring on values. K. Puro, convenor of the Constitution Amendment Committee, led the adoption of the amended constitution, while Dr. Zavei Hiese, convenor of the Chakhesang Attire Regulatory Board, also addressed the gathering.
The house, led by Kekhwengulo Lea, adopted resolutions declaring 2026 as the “Year of Unity and Relationship Building among the Chakhesang Community.” It also resolved to promote the “One Family–One Project” initiative in agriculture and allied sectors and to constitute an expert committee to prepare a 30-year master plan towards economic independence.
Reaffirming its commitment to the existing ban on pig imports into Phek district, the CPO stated that pigs may only be imported from Chakhesang-owned farms outside the district, subject to valid veterinary health certification. Implementation will be monitored by the Chakhesang Youth Front.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Shevohu Nienu, chairperson Phek Town Council, while the general secretary’s report was presented by Chepetso Koza.
