Khelo India Samvaad held across Nagaland on National Sports Day

DIMAPUR, AUG 27 (NPN): Educational institutions across Nagaland observed National Sports Day on August 27 with “Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat, PM Ke Saath” programmes, connecting students and youth with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address on sports, fitness, youth participation and nation-building.
At Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, the NSS Unit organised the programme at the college Conference Hall. Students participated in the virtual session and heard the Prime Minister emphasise expanding sports participation, identifying grassroots talent and strengthening India’s sporting ecosystem.
A moderated interaction with national badminton player Erenbeni P. Lotha and MY Bharat volunteer Jandemo M. Lotha focused on youth participation, leadership and fitness.
At Jubilee Memorial College, the programme featured a virtual address by the Prime Minister followed by a Yuva Samvaad. International gold medallist kickboxer and coach Mongsensara Longkumer shared his sporting journey and spoke about perseverance, discipline and overcoming setbacks. Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung, Dr Madhavi R, IAS, also interacted with students on developing practical skills, leadership, adaptability and problem-solving abilities.
Don Bosco College, Kohima, organised the programme in collaboration with MY Bharat. Students interacted with athletes M. Linshilo Yimchunger and Kezevituo Vizo, focusing on sports infrastructure and challenges faced by aspiring sportspersons. The programme also included discussions on civic-minded youth, future-ready skills and strengthening the MY Bharat platform. Two college athletes, Rüduolhounuo Rachel and Vichaduonuo Rame, were felicitated for their sporting achievements.
At MGM College, students of MGM Higher Secondary School and the college participated in the virtual address and a Yuva Samvaad featuring Pencak Silat athlete Kevin. He shared his international sporting experience and stressed dedication, discipline, perseverance and hard work. A MY Bharat presentation highlighted opportunities for youth in volunteering, learning and nation-building.
Pranab College also observed the day through the NSS Cell in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, MY Bharat and the Sports Authority of India. The programme included the Prime Minister’s address, a video on hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, interactions with sports personalities Lily Hansu and Nise Monu Konyak, and a presentation on MY Bharat opportunities.
Meanwhile, Newman Higher Secondary School, Tobu, organised “Khelo India Samvaad – Khel Ki Baat PM Modi Ke Saath: Yuva Connect”. Local sportsperson Joshua Swu encouraged students to develop their sporting talents and make use of opportunities under initiatives such as Khelo India. Principal Rev. Fr. Kevishe Solomon highlighted the sporting potential of Naga youth and urged students to remain focused and disciplined.
The programmes collectively emphasised sports, fitness, discipline, teamwork, leadership and youth empowerment, while encouraging young people to pursue sporting opportunities and contribute to nation-building.
