IMPHAL, AUG 3: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday reiterated that his government will not compromise in its efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 10 Crores Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign held at Pheidinga in Imphal West district.
The campaign, organised under the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyaan and Mission SPANDAN (Spiritual Partnership Against Narcotic Drug Abuse), was hosted by the Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in collaboration with its Medical Wing (Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation).
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “Restoring peace remains the government’s foremost priority and there will be no compromise in ensuring justice and taking action against those responsible for crimes.” He acknowledged that while Manipur continues to face multiple challenges, sincere efforts by both the government and the people are showing encouraging signs of improvement.
Singh expressed concern that repeated acts of violence undermine reconciliation efforts, pointing out that certain individuals with vested interests are attempting to prolong the crisis for personal gain. He stressed that these individuals do not represent any particular community but are driven solely by self-interest.
Recalling his visits to conflict-affected areas such as Litan in Ukhrul district and Jiribam, Singh highlighted how internally displaced persons from diverse communities—including Kuki, Meitei, Hmar, and Paite—consistently expressed their desire to return home and live together in peace. He noted that during one visit, members of different communities shared a meal, symbolising the genuine aspiration for harmony.
Reiterating his government’s commitment, Singh appealed to citizens to cooperate in rebuilding trust and restoring peace, which he said is essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India one of the most developed nations by 2047 can only be realised if the youth remain free from drug abuse.
During the programme, the Chief Minister presented the Universal Peace Ambassador Award to Rajyogini BK Nilima, In-charge of Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in recognition of her contributions to spiritual service and social welfare. He also launched the campaign voucher and administered a pledge for a drug-free India, reaffirming the commitment of participants to abstain from intoxicants and spread awareness against substance abuse. State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Dr. Jugindro Sorokhaibam, Director of State Medical Services, were among those present at the event.
