Green Team Kohima, in collaboration with Khonoma Students Union, organized a ‘Training on alternative to plastic’ program at Khonoma village under Kohima district on March 30.
A press release from Green Team Kohima stated the event was organised with an aim to create awareness and also train people on alternatives to plastics, in line with the government’s decision to implement a plastic free Nagaland policy.
KCCI general secretary, Akhrie Mor, in her introductory note appreciated the State government for the notification to ban plastic in the state.
Francis Ruangmei, chief administrator of The Coming Generation, sharing from his experiences said plastic is a synthetic polymer and contains chemicals hazardous to human health and the environment. He added that Bisphenol A (BPA) content in plastics are known to cause cancer, infertility and hormone disorders.
Earlier, the program started with a welcome note from Kelhu, president Khonoma Students Union, while the skill training saw a total of 55 participants who were taught to make paper and cloths bags.
Green Team Kohima comprises of KMC, KCCI, The Coming Generation, Yard, Project 72 hours, Earth Friendly Generation and individuals who are concerned about health and environmental safety of the State capital.
