Khonoma village hosts football penalty shootout to promote anti-drug message

In a collaborative effort between the Village Adoption Committee of 8 Western Angami A/C and the 7 Assam Rifles Sechü-Zubza, a football penalty shootout tournament was organised at the Christian Welfare School in Khonoma village. With the theme of “Get High on Grades – Not on Drugs,” the event aimed to steer youth away from substance abuse and towards academic excellence.


Altogether, 13 teams participated in the tournament, showcasing their skills and teamwork where Khonoma Students Union emerged victorious, claiming the championship title. Following closely behind were Khonoma Youth Organization “C” as the first runners-up, and Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho securing the second runners-up position. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, with sports equipment also donated to the Christian Welfare School.


Simultaneously, a medical camp was conducted at the community hall in Khonoma village, extending essential healthcare services to the community. A total of 198 individuals, including 91 males, 57 females, and 50 children, benefited from free medical check-up and received complimentary medicines.


Earlier, SDO (C) Sechü-Zubza, Athrong, delivered a message, emphasizing on the importance of prioritizing education over succumbing to the allure of drugs. Athrong urged participants to become responsible members of society and serve as ambassadors in the fight against drug abuse.
