Kikon inaugurates Mekokla-Changki link road with traditional ceremony

DIMAPUR

MLA Achumbemo Kikon of Bhandari 40 A/C inaugurated the Mekokla-Changki Link Road, connecting Wokha and Mokokchung districts, in a traditional ceremony by cutting bamboo with a machete. The event, held on June 5 at Dümakvü, also marked World Environment Day 2025 under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.”
According to a DIPR report, Kikon reflected on the historical significance of the link road, once a vital trade route between the Lotha and Ao communities, where goods were exchanged through cash and barter. He emphasized that reviving the road, which had remained unused for over 40 years, would strengthen economic ties and foster unity among villages.
Expressing gratitude, Kikon thanked Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Advisor Mhathung Yanthan, and Advisor Temjenmenba for their pivotal role in restoring the road. The World Environment Day celebration at Mekokla featured speeches by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bhandari, Longasen Lotha, Forest Department officials, and Village Council Chairmen from Mekokla and Changki. The event saw participation from officers, public leaders, and villagers from both districts, reinforcing a shared commitment to environmental conservation and community development.
