Chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon, on Wednesday inaugurated a 1.6 MVA (33/11KV) power substation at Merapani village.
According to DIPR report, speaking at the event, Kikon emphasized that the new transformer would enable the department to provide uninterrupted 24×7 power supply, benefiting businesses and boosting development in the region. He urged the community to actively prevent power theft, ensure timely payment of electricity bills, and participate in awareness programs to promote energy conservation.
He extended gratitude to the Power Ministry, Commissioner Secretary, department officials, power grid workers, and field staff for their efforts in completing the project on time. Kikon also acknowledged the support of land donors and the local public, whose cooperation contributed to the success of the initiative.
EAC Bhandari, Kilangtemsu, stressed the importance of energy conservation and timely bill payment, urging citizens to be responsible in managing electricity use. He praised the power department for their achievement and expressed appreciation for Kikon’s initiative in addressing the district’s energy needs. Short speeches were delivered by VCC Merapani Village, Nyamo Odyuo, and Bhandari Town Council chairman, Khonthungya Odyuo. The function was chaired by Er. Mhaden Murry, Junior Engineer, Bhandari Section, while SDO Sanis Electrical Sub-division, Er. Vungthungo L. Murry, delivered the vote of thanks.
During the technical presentation, Executive Engineer Wokha Electrical Division, Er. Chenosing Kemp, explained that while the project was departmental, contributions from Achumbemo Kikon, department officials, Merapani Village Council, Bhandari Town Council, Bhandari Administration, and landowners played a crucial role in its implementation. The newly installed 33 kV line connects Bhandari Town (2.5 MVA substation) to Merapani village will ensure better access to electricity for surrounding areas.
The 1.6 MVA (33KV) power substation at Merapani will serve 21 villages, with the total project cost estimated at Rs 1,33,80,200.
The inauguration marked a major development in the region’s electricity distribution network, promising enhanced reliability and improved access to power for local communities.
