KIM to organise ‘Go-To Fest’ on Oct 23

Kohima Institute of Music (KIM) is set to organise “The Go-To Fest” on October 23, 2023 on the theme, “Music Education Arts”, at The Heritage, Kohima from 10:30 onwards.


Announcing this during a press conference at its Pezielietsie premises, KIM coordinator, Temjen Jamir, said the event will held in commemoration of the institution’s 10th year anniversary and would be launched by project director, Task Force for Music & Arts, Dr Hovithal Sothu.


He said the event will put emphasis on the roots of Naga culture where students would be encouraged to showcase their traditional items and elaborate their respective attires.
The one-day festival will feature performances from some of the renowned musicians in Nagaland including Atsa Lang Roth, Temsu Clover while music educators from South Korea, Delhi and Guwahati would be engaging in multi-disciplinary workshops covering church hymnal playing for pianist.


Temjen Jamir informed that Lopeno Ovung Queah will give masterclass on drum rudiments for the enthusiasts while manager, RSL Awards, Ritesh Khokhar will give classes on effective classroom teaching for music educators.
Schools from Kohima will compete in the ultimate choir and solo (voice and instrumental) categories which carries cash prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 each for the winners respectively.


School students of class 12 and below can participate in the open art competition at the venue and win exciting prizes. Margaret Shishak School of Music, Patkai Christian College will set up a music career counselling centre where interested students can enquire about music studies and various auditions.


Educentre, the educational consultancy, will set up a centre with the theme, “Your gateway to the future” to help students guide in the areas of Education, Skills and Entrepreneurship.


The festival will also feature cultural shows, museums, dance fitness sessions, performance by music students and teachers and also feature works by upcoming artisans, entrepreneurs and food stalls, Jamir informed.
He disclosed that the festival would be family friendly and therefore have invited interested individuals to come with their dear ones and enjoy wonderful food and music.


Renowned Naga artist, Moa Imchen, informed that students can bring their pencils, crayons for the competition. While there will be live sketch in caricature at the venue. He further disclosed that water colors would not be permitted during the competition.


Painting done by students will be on sale at nominal rates during the event while there will also be clay model making and paper art crafts as well. There will also be live music at the venue the whole day during which KIM students will be performing besides other artistes.
